Every girl should "go curly" on her birthday and it just so happens that today my lil' Miss McKenna is turning one year older! You should know that whenever a head of hair gets curled at my house I use a...Da-Da-Dun.....FLAT IRON!!! As a hairstylist, it is absolutely my favorite tool of choice. In fact, it's practically the only electric tool that I use aside from the ultimate must-have, a blow-dryer!
I have curled lots and lots.....and lots of hair in the last 11 years and I do it all with my Chi flat iron! Even so, I still get clients who are in shock and awe when I grab for this fab tool to create a wave in their hair. So much so, that the VERY act of curling hair with a flat iron just had to be addressed! What better way for me to teach you how to do this fun trick than to show you.

WA-La!! Beautiful locks of flat iron curls!
After you've curled your hair add a little volume to your new style with some backcombing! Finish it off with a silk serum and your FAVORITE Hairspray to lock them in place! My personal picks are Biosilk serum and Retro finishing spray.
Now that you have the "know-how" it's time to put it to good use! Surprise your man TODAY with curly tresses....or at least try it out on your next big date out on the town!
Just remember this classic rule: Practice makes perfect! Practice on yourself, practice on your kids, or even practice on a friend. Don't be discouraged if this technique feels a bit strange at first (totally normal :)). You WILL get the hang of it in no time.
A BIG thanks to my wonderful model. ;) As well as Bridget and a bunch of the other Divas for asking me to post about this. I have a feeling that you will be seeing a lot of The Divas go curly for the holidays! I am one of them......
Speaking of Holidays.....Happy Veterans Day! I am a proud daughter of one of those veterans Thanks Dad for all you do to serve our country. If someone you love is a Veteran, leave us a comment.

Looks great! :)
ReplyDeleteLis! You are hilarious, love the pic! Thanks for showing us how-to!
ReplyDeleteSo I have tried this on myself and others but on me I pull out amazing amounts of hair!! After the last time I worried it might not all grow back in. It seems like it is getting caught somehow in the straightener. What am I doing wrong? or do I need to look for a certain kind of straightener. Thanks for any help!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing. I need to practice on myself. It might take extra practice since I have shorter hair or I can just come to you...what do ya say? haha But seriously I do need a hairdresser
ReplyDelete@Crewmom- You are not doing anything wrong. It's just time to invest in a new flat iron. I too have had flat irons that pull the hair and it is no fun. I swear by the Chi flat iron. NO PULLING!!! Good luck!
ReplyDelete@Whitty- If you practice, you will get a feel for it! Contact me at thedatingdivasblog@gmail.com and we'll see what we can do about getting your haid did!!
Loved this post!! Thanks for sharing. You and Mckenna look beautiful with your curls!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing! I have two brothers who served in Iraq for 14 Months! I am very grateful for the Men and Women who SERVE our Country!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, so impressive! I don't think I could ever do that
ReplyDeleteWow! Lisa! I love this post! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!! The HAIR post...I have been waiting for this! Love it, girly! It IS pretty tricky doing it on yourself! I attempted one curl the other day and it was perfect....and the next one was not so pretty. LOL I nixed it and went "straight" for the day....vowing to attempt it again when I had more time! :) I laughed out loud when I saw your picture(s). Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteKristen taught me how to do this years ago, and it is still one of the best HAIR TRICKS I have ever learned!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I show my clients all the time how to do this and I tell them the same thing..practice makes perfect!
ReplyDeleteI think it's key to hold on to the hair the whole time you pull the flat iron down so that your hair doesn't flip out of place. Some people don't hold it and that causes a problem :)
Also if you have a funky curl...move onto the next one and let that cool. After you've curled the next one go back and re-curl the funky one. It's much easier to deal with when it's cooled. Alot of the times if it's still hot and you try to re-curl it will just go straight :)
@Courtney-Thanks for the addition of your spot-on tips!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a veteran so when you said to let you know, I decided it was time to introduce myself...I love this blog. I read it all the time. I enjoy getting tips for date nights and other fun things. Thanks for posting! I'm going to have to try this curling technique out soon. :)
ReplyDeleteMy wonderful husband is a veteran and I am so proud of him! He does so much for our family! He just came home from his 4th deployment last week! I couldn't be happier to have him home again!!! Thanks so much for your site. So far in the last week I have been able to try out so many things. Mine and his favorite are the little love notes. I printed out so many and leave them for him to find. His and my love language is Words of Affirmation. So that fits us perfectly! : )
ReplyDeleteI really need to try this sometime! My dad's a veteran :)
ReplyDeleteI may actually be able to do this to myself, and to my daughter!!! Thanks Lisa!!!
